AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety

Do you want to become a Swimming Teacher? Enrol into one of our Austswim courses today. 

The AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course provides candidates with essential competencies to teach swimming and water safety to persons from four years of age in swimming pools and confined natural shallow water venues.  Your Austswim accreditation is valid for three years.

The AUSTSWIM course is a nationally recognised training program and will enable you to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to teach swimming and water safety classes across Australia.

Course Duration: 17 hours

Delivery Mode: The course consists of theory and practical components.

  1. Theory component - topics may be offered through classroom attendance and selected topics via AUSTSWIM’s e-learning centre.
  2. Practical component - Practical teaching hours including observation, supervised teaching and assessment of teaching competency

Pre-requisistes:

* Are required to have a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability.

* May enrol in an AUSTSWIM course at 16 years of age but are not eligible to receive the accreditation until they are 17 years of age.

Post Course requirements:

* A Resuscitation award or HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) unit of competence will need to be completed separately before the AUSTSWIM certification will be awarded.

* Practical teaching hours including observation, supervised teaching and assessment of teaching competency.

All candidates enrolled into AUSTSWIM courses, in Australia, from 1 July 2016 will require a current and valid working with children check in order for a licence to be issued.

The Royal Life Saving Society WA has a partnership arrangement with AUSTSWIM to deliver and assess the course on their behalf. AUSTSWIM are the Registered Training Organisation (RTO). The Royal Life Saving Society WA follows all of AUSTSWIM'S organisational policies and procedures when delivering and assessing an AUSTSWIM course.
