Applications for the Business and Tourism Innovation Grant Now Open

Businesses and community organisations are reminded that the new round of the Town’s Business and Tourism Innovation Grant is now open, encouraging innovative operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This grant’s intended purpose is to support projects, events or activities that advance and encourage increased visitation, participation and contribute to the presentation of Port Hedland as a destination. However, the COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings shift this grant’s focus towards the digital space.

The maximum value of the grant is $2,000, which can be allocated to website design and development, equipment, marketing, materials, additional staffing, construction, signage and more.

Now more than ever, it’s an opportunity to purchase digital equipment and online resources to reach audiences in the online space, broadening viewership and opportunities.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP said the grant gave local business and community groups the opportunity to think outside the box during a time of economic uncertainty.

“The Business and Tourism Innovation Grant seeks to innovate the way business and community groups operate during unprecedented times: COVID-19 has severely restricted the way organisations engage with the public and deliver services.

“For example, a small business which runs dance classes can no longer hold gatherings. However, this grant could facilitate the purchase of equipment to record or livestream classes to students.

“It’s also the perfect opportunity to explore e-commerce: maybe you’re a bricks and mortar retailer that wants to set up an online shop to maintain relationships with your loyal customer base: the opportunities are endless.

“Along with the Town’s Buy Local, By Hedland initiative, this grant is another mechanism for the Town to support business and community groups during particularly tough circumstances.”
