Eligible Hedland based businesses and not-for-profit organisations are invited to apply for the Town’s COVID-19 Assistance Grants, assisting with the economic fallout of COVID-19 restrictions.
The Town has established the Support Local Business Assistance Fund for eligible local for-profit businesses, and the Community Group Assistance Fund for eligible local not-for-profit organisations.
$625,000 in total has been allocated to the Support Local Business Fund, and $360,000 in total has been allocated to the Community Group Assistance Fund. All individual applications are capped at a maximum grant value of $10,000.
Businesses will need to demonstrate at least a 30% reduction in turnover and/or profit compared to an equivalent period in the previous financial year to be eligible for the Support Local Business Fund.
The objective of these grants is to support organisations impacted by COVID-19 restrictions, allowing them to continue to service the community during the pandemic and the recovery period.
All applications can be submitted online on the Town’s Smarty Grants portal, which can be accessed via the Town of Port Hedland’s website.
Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP said COVID-19 restrictions have resulted in significant economic impacts to Hedland based businesses and community organisations.
“The Town’s COVID-19 Assistance Grants have been designed to help Hedland based businesses and community organisations get back on their feet, with the Support Local Business Fund and the Community Group Assistance Fund forming an integral part of the Town’s response to the local economic fallout of COVID-19.
“Nationally, we’ve seen significant rises in the rates of unemployment and underemployment, with sectors such as hospitality, tourism, entertainment, fitness and beauty being particularly hard hit.
“Hedland has a number of small and micro businesses which have had to stop all operations as a result of COVID-19 restrictions. We’ve largely contained the public health aspect of the pandemic locally, so now it’s time to focus on the economic impacts and help as many businesses get back to work as possible.
“I encourage any organisation thinking of applying to read the COVID-19 Assistance Grants booklet on the Town website, which details all the eligibility requirements and how grant money can be spent.”
