Community members are encouraged to download the free SafeWA app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, for the purpose of assisting local businesses and community groups to comply with mandatory contact registering from Saturday 5 December.
The app is free and will enable you to scan a QR code at premises impacted by the contact registering mandate. Downloading the app is not mandatory: a hard copy sign in sheet will also be available at impacted premises.
All details collected can only be used for the purpose of contact tracing by the WA Health Department in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak in the community. Details cannot be used for other means, such as promotional efforts.
Mayor Peter Carter encouraged all community members to download the app to help out local small businesses.
“From Saturday 5 December, a number of public premises will be required to ensure community members sign in on arrival. This includes cafes, gyms, churches, beauty services, galleries, cinemas, real estate inspections, libraries, community halls, function centres, hotels and more.
“With interstate borders easing and travel increasing over the festive season, it’s arguably more important than at any time during the pandemic to remain vigilant and follow health advice to keep our community COVID free.
“The SafeWA app has been developed by the WA Government to streamline the contact tracing process, enabling patrons to sign into venues easily and hygienically with their smartphones.
“I understand not everyone has access to a smartphone, or does not wish to download the app. However, you will need to utilise the hard copy sign in sheet at impacted premises to comply with the mandate.
“Small businesses in particular have had a tough time this year, so let’s all cooperate to make the contact registering process as simple as possible.”
