Finishing Touches on Marie Marland Oval Upgrades

Contractors MJW and Town staff have completed the construction of new dugouts at Marie Marland Oval, capping off wide ranging improvements at the oval in recent times.

The Town also upgraded change rooms to provide more usable amenities for players, as well as installing a new commercial kitchen with servery and accessible toilets.

New dugouts are converted sea containers which are fully cyclone rates and moveable, providing full field viewing for the players and direct field access during games.

The dugouts installation has been a collaborative project between the Town and Hedland Diamond Sports Clubs over the longer term, with an eye for supporting future club needs.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP said the Oval’s improvements were testament to the hard work of staff, contractors and club members over a number of years.

“I’d like to commend the work of MJW, Town of Port Hedland staff and Hedland Diamond Sports Clubs who came together and worked on oval improvements for the benefit of local residents.

“Sports players now have access to a commercial grade kitchen, accessible and usable toilets, shaded seating and well maintained oval.

“These upgrades are part of the Town’s record investment in core infrastructure and public space assets, delivered in the 2019/20 annual budget.

“The COVID-19 restrictions have made us all value and appreciate sport and outdoor activity even more: these upgrades are ready to go for when life returns to normal.”
