Get Active to Raise Money for the Pink Pilbara Breakfast

Community members are invited to attend a week of group fitness classes at Port Hedland Leisure’s Wanangkura Stadium to raise funds for the Pink Pilbara Breakfast.

The Pink Pilbara Breakfast was established in 2018 by the Hedland Well Women’s Centre to raise funds for breast cancer research. Over the last 15 years, the Well Women’s Centre has raised nearly $350,000 for cancer research and support.

Class attendees are encouraged to wear pink to the classes, in recognition of breast cancer awareness month. Attendees are asked to donate at the beginning of each class.

Crèche will be available for most classes and bookings are essential to reserve your place.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP encouraged community members to get involved with the schedule of classes to raise funds for vital breast cancer support services and research.

“I’d like to commend the Hedland Well Women’s Centre for spearheading breast cancer awareness in Hedland, partnering with Port Hedland Leisure to raise funds for the annual Pink Pilbara Breakfast.

“There’s an active schedule of classes during the week which will raise funds for the Pink Pilbara Breakfast, with something for everyone: from Grit Strength to Body Balance, you’ll be spoilt for choice!

“It is estimated that there will be over 19,900 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in 2020, tragically resulting in over 3,000 deaths. These statistics remind us all of the heavy toll cancer inflicts in communities across the country.

“Due to COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns, mammograms declined by 89.2% in April this year. Simply put, this means that people are putting off potentially life-saving checks.

“As well as attending the classes, now is also a prime opportunity to reflect on the importance of mammography and healthy lifestyles in reducing the risks of future breast cancer diagnoses.”

Bookings open 24 hours prior to the scheduled class commencing. Bookings can be made online here, or by calling 08 9158 9750.
