Residents, businesses and community organisations are invited to have a say in the MARKYT Community Resilience Scorecard, with the aim to hear from 10,000 residents across WA.

The study sees the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, 139 Local Governments and local communities collaborating to access timely and relevant information.

The objective is to map well-being and resilience levels and to advise local governments where to prioritise efforts, particularly during the COVID-19 recovery period.

The survey asks respondents to assess how COVID-19 has impacted their lifestyle and how they perceive their local government responded to the crisis.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP said the survey provided valuable insights into how communities have coped with COVID-19 restrictions.

“The last few months have been tough on locals, placing pressure on budgets, restricting social gatherings and forcing everyone to rapidly change ingrained behaviours.

“The MARKYT Community Resilience Scorecard will give us an idea of how well Hedland is tracking, how informed the population is with regards to COVID-19 and the areas which we should focus more resources on.”

Candy Choo, Local Government Professionals WA CEO, said the goal was to hear from 10,000 residents across the state.

“Early results are encouraging.  They highlight strong leadership in Local Government to support their communities. They reinforce the crucial role Local Government has during times of crisis and emergency.

Respondents are saying they want Local Government to take an active role in economic recovery and to engage local businesses and community members to create a Recovery Plan. But, to find out if these are the main priorities in each local government area, we need to hear from more people.”
