With the festive season fast approaching, it means it’s time to light up Hedland as part of the 2020 Festive Lights Competition. This year’s competition is made possible by Gold Sponsor Horizon Power and Media Partner the North West Telegraph.

This year’s competition will feature three separate categories including Best Display (which will include a runner-up), Best Sustainable Display and People’s Choice.

Nominations are now open and there are four cash prizes on offer ranging from $350 to $850.

Mayor Peter Carter said Hedlanders had gone all-out in their efforts in previous years and he expected to see the same enthusiasm in 2020.

“It’s a special time of year, and the Festive Lights Competition is a great way for the whole community to get into the festive spirit.

“I can’t wait to see the quality of displays that will be showcased around the town, and I encourage everyone to get involved.

“The sustainable category gives community members the opportunity to get creative with how they approach their display, while demonstrating their eco-friendly credentials.

“Except for the winners of Best Display, Best Display Runner Up and Best Sustainable Display, all eligible displays are entered into People’s Choice voting.

Nominations close 5pm Wednesday 2 December 2020, and judging will take place on Monday 7 December 6:30pm to 10:30pm.

In addition to the prizes, the Town of Port Hedland will issue a map with all of the lit-up houses and will also run Port and South Hedland bus tours on Tuesday 8 December from 6:30pm onwards, giving attendees the opportunity to visit the participating households in either Port or South Hedland.
