Community members are invited to submit nominations in the 2021 Community Citizen of the Year Awards, recognising individuals and organisations making notable contributions.
The Port Hedland awards are made possible by Horizon Power, ITOCHU Minerals & Energy Australia, the Port Hedland RSL and Roy Hill.
Nominations can be made across the categories of Active Citizenship – Group or Event, Citizen of the Year – Youth (under 25), Citizen of the Year – Senior (over 65) and Citizen of the Year.
Outstanding contribution and community service includes areas such as education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of a community.
Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP encouraged local residents to consider who contributes to the vibrancy and liveability of the local community.
“The backbone of our community are the people who give up their time on a daily basis to make Hedland a better place to call home.
“The award categories are designed to recognise the breadth of diversity and talent which builds our community, strengthens citizenship and shapes a brighter future.
“We are lucky to have so many community groups and volunteers who go above and beyond the call of duty.
“I’m sure it will be a hard decision to select the winners, as there’s so many worthy recipients. I look forward to the winners being announced on Australia Day 2021.”
