On Saturday 19 September, the doors will officially open to the refurbished Gratwick Aquatic and Fitness Centre in Port Hedland, providing a new standard of member experience in the coastal community for all ages and lifestyles.
The site’s refurbishment is the result of a commitment by the Town of Port Hedland to secure the facility’s longevity, with locals voicing their love of cooling off in the pool with the ocean views over Cemetery Beach.
Key site upgrades include more open space and higher ceilings in the gym, better accessibility, more shaded areas for families by the pool, state of the art Technogym fitness equipment, space for virtual group fitness classes and 24/7 gym access for members.
Perhaps the most noteworthy upgrade is the installation of Technogym fitness equipment, featured in fitness chains around the world and known for spearheading the digital fitness revolution.
Members will be able to login to the Mywellness app on their smartphone, allowing them to better track their workouts and connect to gym equipment. This upgrade in digital capabilities builds on the recent successes Port Hedland Leisure enjoyed with their virtual workouts throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Town CEO Carl Askew said the refurbished facility appealed to the town’s diverse lifestyles, including FIFO workers, families and individuals passionate about health and well being.
“We’ve endeavoured to create a fitness facility which empowers locals to reach their health and fitness goals, whether they’re shift workers in the mining and resources industry, families faced with time constraints or young professionals – there’s something for everyone.
“Port Hedland is unique in that our communal life integrates with industry. The new gym offers 24/7 gym access, giving these workers the ability to fit workouts using state of the art strength and cardio equipment into their rosters.
“More and more families are choosing to call Hedland home, so the site has a welcoming vibe with plenty of space for parents, children and friends to congregate and share their fitness journeys.”
“I’m pleased the Town has delivered on our commitment to upgrade the site for current and future generations in Hedland to enjoy.”
