A fly through video has been produced to showcase the future pavilion at the South Hedland Integrated Sports Hub (SHISH) precinct, envisioning local residents enjoying a new standard of sporting and recreational amenity.

The pavilion is part of SHISH stage one works, and will include a kitchen, function space and club rooms, supporting the expanding needs of local grassroots sporting clubs.

The overall SHISH masterplan was endorsed by Council in August 2019, with Carabiner Architects in conjunction with ABV Leisure Consultants producing the preliminary designs. Aspect Studios were awarded the contract for landscape works.

SHISH is one of the three sites which make up the Hedland Recreation Hubs, a $167 million public infrastructure investment initiative funded by government and industry.

SHISH will also include new sports courts and significant exterior landscaping upgrades. Wanangkura Stadium will be upgraded, including expanded gym space and more playrooms.

Mayor Peter Carter welcomed the vision for the SHISH pavilion taking shape, reflecting on its role in supporting future growth.

“I’d like to thank the Town staff and contractors who have produced a vision for the pavilion at the South Hedland Integrated Sports Hub, delivering on our commitment to upscale the sporting and recreational amenity of local sporting clubs for the future.

“The fly through video provides a clear vision of the extra space local sporting groups will enjoy once the pavilion is constructed, adjacent to Kevin Scott Oval. Annual functions, meetings, training and competition days will be able to accommodate more people in greater comfort.

“SHISH has kept integrated sports at the forefront of design considerations, reflecting Hedland’s diversity of sports and leisure activities on offer.

“I’m pleased SHISH will deliver on outcomes in the Town’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2017-2022, including that access will be ensured and explored for new buildings, through the provision of ramps of wider access points.

“Fellow Elected Members and I look forward to viewing further detailed designs for the SHISH pavilion as the project progresses into 2021.”
