Forrest Circle next step for Town development plans

Council has authorised for the Town of Port Hedland to acquire Lot 500 (25) Forrest Circle, South Hedland.

Council has also authorised the Town to enter negotiations to secure early access to the land around the buildings on the site and enter an agreement with the relevant parties to secure access.

The acquisition of the site will support the South Hedland Integrated Sports Hub (SHISH) master plan, the Hamilton Road Streetscape upgrades and building assessments.

On 23 March, Council endorsed the feasibility study and needs analysis for a centralised Arts and Culture Precinct and noted the proposed location of Lot 500 Forrest Circle in South Hedland.

Early access to the northern portion of the site will finalise the programming of the SHISH master plan which identifies the need for additional parking for both SHISH and the Wanangkura Stadium upgrade and expansion.

Acknowledging that childcare in Hedland is key to economic participation and early learning outcomes, the Town will secure direct lease arrangements for the childcare on site with One Tree Community Services Incorporated.

Mayor Peter Carter said the acquisition of the Forrest Circle location was key to realising the Town’s strategic vision, not only in terms of the SHISH masterplan, but for a new civic and cultural arts precinct.

“The Town is committed to the present and future needs of the Hedland community and ensuring that land for infrastructure provision is identified, planned and developed.

“The planned upgrades and new infrastructure will significantly help meet the demand for sports and recreation, and also support the arts and cultural amenity for both liveability for continued economic growth.

“It is vital that our community has access to revitalised facilities and community infrastructure across the Town, that provides a range of lifestyle opportunities.

“These authorisations will support the Town in planning infrastructure development that aims to meet both the current demands for civic and community services and also support projected future growth.”
