Council has accepted a tender from TEC Services Group for $2 million to resume stage 2 works on the JD Hardie Youth and Community Hub.

TEC Services Group will complete the construction of three new multi-use courts, a shade shelter, an amphitheatre, accessible changing facility and will undertake landscaping. Stage 2 works are projected to be completed in mid-2022.

The project has received $750,000 from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund.

Mayor Peter Carter welcomed Council’s acceptance of the tender at last week’s Ordinary Council Meeting.

“I’m pleased stage 2 works on the JD Hardie Youth and Community Hub will resume soon, delivering a central pillar in the Town’s Hedland Recreation Hubs precincts.

“Construction will resume on the big steel shade structure next to the building, which paused last year.

“Once works are complete, the area will be shaded and inviting for local residents and community groups to enjoy, providing a welcoming environment to play sport, socialise and hold events and community engagement programming.”
