Extension of Works at SHAC

Please be advised that the reopening of South Hedland Aquatic Centre has unfortunately been delayed.

Earlier in the year, the Town of Port Hedland commenced works to extend the structural life of the pools at South Hedland Aquatic Centre. However, while works were progressing, a number of leaks were detected which has necessitated further repair works prior to recommissioning.

While these additional works will significantly extend the life of the pools, the entire facility will need to remain closed to the public while works are still ongoing.

During this time, Gratwick Aquatic Centre will continue operating every day of the week:

  • 5am-7pm Monday-Thursday
  • 5am-6pm Fridays
  • 8am-6pm Saturdays
  • 10am-6pm Sundays

While many of the activities normally conducted from South Hedland Aquatic Centre can be run out of Gratwick Aquatic Centre, Swim School will unfortunately not be able to shift operations to Gratwick Aquatic Centre due to its lower temperatures.

Regretfully this means that Swim School Term 3 has been cancelled and will only resume operations when South Hedland Aquatic Centre reopens.

All participants who are already enrolled in Term 3 will be moved to the next term. Alternatively, participants can opt for a credit while maintaining their priority placement for future terms.

If none of the options provided suit your circumstances, alternative arrangements can be made by emailing swimschool@porthedland.wa.gov.au or calling us on (08) 9158 9750.

While this delay is far from ideal, the team is working hard behind the scenes to minimise the disruption caused and get everyone back to South Hedland Aquatic Centre as quickly as possible.

We thank everyone for their continued support and understanding, and will provide updates on work progression throughout the project.
