Have Your Say On Shaping Hedland's Future

Community members are invited to have their say on the next 10 to 20 years of land use planning and development within the Town of Port Hedland.

Building on the back of the last decade of considerable planning, design and technical evidence base, the Town is currently preparing Local Planning Scheme number 7, which will determine how land is lawfully used and developed into the future.

The revised Scheme will seek to reflect community sentiment and align with the zoning and reservation requirements set out in the Local Planning Strategy.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling said changes to land use planning affects residents, community groups and industry.

“Our goal is to develop a new local planning scheme which takes into consideration the views of residents and all community stakeholders.

“With a long term vision in mind, there is a need to strike the right balance between development growth and livability.

“The review will take into consideration all parcels of land in the Port Hedland local government area, excluding the West End precinct, which is subject to Improvement Plan 50.

“The revised Scheme may alter the controls and requirements which landowners are subject to, impacting how you and your neighbours can develop properties.

“As a local government, we have an obligation to ensure the final Scheme is compatible with State Government policy.

“The information gathered at the consultation sessions will inform both the draft local planning strategy and scheme, which will be made public in early 2020.”
