Hedland Splash, proudly supported by the Town of Port Hedland and Fortescue, is a community-first initiative providing free pool entry for children under 12 at local aquatic centres throughout the warmer months.
This season, Hedland Splash recorded more than 13,500 pool entries, up from 12,000 the previous year, representing an increase of 12.5%.
The rise in participation highlights the program’s strong value for local families and reinforces the importance of its ongoing delivery.
Fortescue’s Director Approvals, Communities and Services, Rosli Wheelock, said Hedland Splash has quickly become an important part of the summer for many Port Hedland families.
“What’s been encouraging about Hedland Splash is how strongly the community has embraced it.”
“Having a free, safe place for kids to swim and cool off takes some of the pressure off families and gives young people somewhere positive to spend their time. It has been great to see so many families making the most of it and building it into their summer routines.”
The Town of Port Hedland remains focused on creating inclusive, welcoming spaces for the community and providing opportunities for children and families to stay active and connected over summer.
“The continued growth of Hedland Splash shows the impact of strong partnerships, and we’re invested in further development of the program and promoting safe water practices across the community.”
Hedland Splash wrapped up for the season on 19 April, but will return later in the year.
