The Push-Up Challenge

tpuc

This June, we'll be participating in the The Push-Up Challenge, and we invite everyone across Hedland to join in and help shine a spotlight on mental health and suicide prevention.

People living in rural and remote Australia are up to twice as likely to die by suicide than people living in major cities.

We believe that suicide prevention strategies should be relevant, accessible and inclusive, and as one of the largest providers of fitness services in the Pilbara, we can play a significant role in helping improve mental wellbeing.

So this June, get involved, get fit, have fun and learn more about mental health.

You can go at it solo, join our team, or get your own crew together to complete 3,214 push-ups over 23 days!

FAQs

Can I do something else?

Definitely! It's about challenging yourself and helping spread awareness on mental health. If you can't do ordinary push-ups, you can do push ups on your knees, against the wall, halve the daily target, or substitute push-ups with other exercises. If it isn't challenging enough for you, there are more advanced push-up variations you can integrate into your routine.

How do I register?

Just hit the button above and follow the on screen instructions - You can do it fully solo – Join one of the Port Hedland Leisure teams, or start your own team!

Why the odd number? 3,214 push-ups?

3,214 signifies the number of Australians who died by suicide in 2023. The goal of the challenge is to put a spotlight on mental health and suicide prevention. We encourage everyone to get involved and tag your push-up photos with #pushforbetter

Am I too late to register?

Not at all! As the saying goes, better late than never! There is also a handy app which will help you keep track of your daily targets. If you fall behind, you can always catch up, but you can't get ahead. The number of push-ups per day are varied to help you build up your push-up capacity, while also educating participants on key health statistics.

Can I help in another way?

The Push for Better Foundation is a registered charity in Australia which works alongside a number of other leading charities, such as Lifeline and headspace – If you prefer, you can always make a donation to help the cause at www.thepushupchallenge.com.au
