Significant progress has been made on Stage 2 works at the JD Hardie Youth & Community Hub in South Hedland, with projected completion later this year. The works have been undertaken by lead contractors and local business, MJW Building.

Completed entry statement works include the entrance ramp and stairs, footings for small shade structures and a curved wall installation.

Additionally, footings have been installed for the large shade structure, the carpark and ring road have been spray sealed, connections for changing places have been installed, and electrical communications pits have completed.

Stage 2 works represent a $7,546,233 investment in the project, including $750,000 from WA State Government through the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, which aims to increase participation in sport and recreation.

The works are part of the Town’s broader suite of Hedland Recreation Hub sites, a $167 million investment in Hedland’s sporting and recreational amenity for a growing population.

Mayor Peter Carter welcomed the progress made so far, reflecting on the JDHYCH’s important role in the community.

“The community highly values the JD Hardie Youth & Community Hub, so it’s great to see stage 2 works at the site progressing so well.

“I’d like to thank the Town’s staff, lead contractor MJW Building and all subcontractors for making the site upgrade a reality, part of the Town’s delivery of the Hedland Recreation Hub sites.

“The Town is committed to supporting the local economy and job creation through projects like the JD Hardie Youth & Community Hub, providing the necessary sporting and recreational infrastructure to support a growing population.”
